Andreas Ungar began his tenure as the new Managing Director of Mönchengladbach Airport (MGL) on December 1st, 2021. With this appointment, the management team, alongside Managing Director Dr. Ulrich Schückhaus and authorized officer David Bongartz, is once again complete.

Ungar succeeds Franz-Josef Kames, who retired at the end of March. During the contract signing in June of this year, Ungar expressed his enthusiasm for the new and exciting role in Mönchengladbach. He stated, “I am looking forward to the new and exciting task in Mönchengladbach. MGL Airport is well positioned with its established business areas as a training, maintenance, and event location.” He also highlighted the airport’s excellent infrastructure and high flexibility as crucial factors contributing to its significant potential to drive innovative developments in aviation and become even more attractive for general aviation.

“We will tackle this together with great energy – further developing the airport as an innovation and growth engine for Mönchengladbach,” adds Schückhaus. Ungar will be responsible for the airport’s operational business and, similar to other municipal companies, will initially be appointed for a period of five years.

In his thirties, Ungar previously served as Operations Manager and Managing Director of security services at Münster/Osnabrück Airport. Prior to that, he held various positions of responsibility at Rostock-Laage Airport, including Technical Manager, Traffic Manager, and authorized officer. With a background in aerospace engineering, Ungar brings a wealth of experience in innovative topics such as emission-free flying, drones, and air taxis, which are currently playing a significant role at MGL through the SkyCab research project.
